The Tillingbourne School Triathlon is a huge success

08 July 2011

The Tillingbourne Triathlon is a bi-annual event that is hugely popular with the children and parents of Tillingbourne Junior School in Chilworth. The school draws from families in Shalford, Bramley, Wonersh, Albury, Shere and Shamley Green.  This year saw around 200 pupils and siblings, swim, cycle and run their way through the heat on what was a beautiful sunny Sunday in July.  The youngest competitor was 5 years old, with most children between 7 and 11yrs, all of which seemed to take on the challenge with determination and a smile for the camera.  They were rewarded with medals, certificates and event t-shirts, worn with pride.

They were cheered on by friends, family and David Lighterness, Guildford's own GB triathlete who opened the event.  The children raised school funds through sponsorship which will go towards sports equipment and outdoor facilities for the school.

MSE is proud to have been lead sponsors of an event that encourages children in sport, tenacity and the spirit of "giving it a go".
