Meldrum Salter Edgley, the oldest firm of Chartered Surveyors and Estate agents in Guildford are the official sponsors of Guildford’s Heritage Open Days.

This is the fifteenth year that Guildford has participated in this annual nationwide celebration of the best of the country’s heritage, organised by the Civic Trust and locally by Guildford Borough Council, The Guildford Society and the Guildford Tour Guides. Guildford once again has amongst the highest number of Open Day events in the country with more than 100 things to see and do over the weekend of the 12th to 14th September, 2008. Many of the area’s most famous historic buildings are opened to the public free of charge including Guildford Castle, The innovative Hydro Project which generates electricity to power 50 houses every year, Guildford Cathedral; where you can climb the 249 steps up to the tower and the Guildhall as well as many other, less well known, but equally fascinating buildings in the town and surrounding villages. In addition, there is a programme of exhibitions, guided walks and attractions for all ages to enjoy.

Michael Ginsberg, Senior Partner of Meldrum Salter Edgley said, “Guildford’s organisers; Guildford Borough Council, Guildford Society and the Guildford Tour Guides have really pushed the boat out this year and Meldrum Salter Edgley is proud to support them. We are proud of the fact that our firm was founded as early as 1889 and we act for many families and companies who have owned property in the Guildford area as investments for generations. Our office in the Upper High Street is itself a listed building dating from the 16th Century, with interesting features retained including many original exposed beams and a bread oven.”

When Michael qualified as a Chartered Surveyor his dissertation topic was the sustainability of listed shops in Guildford. He added, “I consider myself extremely lucky to work in property in such a lovely area with a rich history and beautiful and stimulating buildings. Heritage Open Days allows us all the chance to share in that history and that can only add value to our collective enjoyment of the built environment around us”.

Meldrum Salter Edgley also sponsor The Godalming Museum.
